Before we started Albemarle Moving and Junk Removal, we watched the standard junk removal model play out in Charlottesville: show up, load the truck, drive to the transfer station, dump everything. Furniture that a family would have been grateful to receive. Tools that would have lasted decades more. Appliances that just needed a new home. All of it going straight to the landfill because that was the fastest, easiest path.
We started with a different commitment: before anything goes to disposal, we sort for donation. Every job. No exceptions.

Where Donations Go
Our primary donation partner. Every Friday we make a run to Habitat for Humanity ReStore at 1600 Avon Street Extended in Charlottesville. Furniture, appliances, building materials, household goods — all resold to fund Habitat homebuilding in Central Virginia.
For items that move faster than a ReStore run can handle, we place directly with families in our community network. A bedroom set that a family needs now goes directly to that family — not to a warehouse first.
We work with Charlottesville community organizations that coordinate household goods for specific families and situations throughout the year.
Appliances and metal furniture that cannot be donated as-is have metal components recycled. Steel, aluminum, and copper extracted rather than landfilled.
