Why Pianos Are the Hardest Item in the House
An upright piano weighs 300–600 pounds. A baby grand weighs 500–600 pounds. A full concert grand weighs over 1,000 pounds. Beyond the weight, pianos are rigid — they don't fold, they don't disassemble, and they don't navigate stairs well. Most doorways are 32–36 inches wide; most pianos are 48–60 inches wide. Proper piano removal in Charlottesville requires a crew with the right dollies, furniture blankets, and technique to avoid damaging floors, walls, and doorframes.
